Substantial: Black Of All Trades (V2) – NPR Tiny Desk Submission [Video]

Substantial: Black Of All Trades (V2) – [NPR Tiny Desk Submission Video]

Substantial: Black Of All Trades points to the fact that there many Black Americans go unrecognized for their numerous talents and achievements. Take Substantial for example, he raps, yes, but he also is a visual artist, both with pencils and brushes and as a graphic artist with the computer. He is also an educator and an A&R at his label. And he does all of those things WELL! Black of All Trades.

In the single’s liner notes on BandCamp, Substantial includes a quote from Hill Harper, an American film, television and stage actor, and author, who says

“I believe we all have the capacity to be masters of many things, and there’s nothing that we can’t do. You can be a great actor and also be a great writer. There’s so many things that all of us have the capacity to do. But somehow, life tries to convince us that we’d be lucky to do even one thing well, and I disagree.” ― Hill Harper

The video, featuring DJ JAV is a submission for NPR’s Tiny Desk contest. It was filmed and edited by CAMCAMTV, at Substantial’s desk at Oxon Hill Middle School where he works with 12 to 14 year olds as a Student Advocate and teaches music production afterschool.

The song, produced by THE OTHER GUYS, is off the recently released LP, THE PAST IS ALWAYS PRESENT IN THE FUTUREavailable on COMPACT DISC, & CASSETTE as well as digital download from
