When you think about it, a comedian is basically an MC who tells jokes instead of rapping. Hell a lot of battle rappers are basically comedians who rhyme. I think entertainers of any kind can relate to Dave Chappelle’s radio interview on WILD 94.1fm, with host JV, in the Bay. He talks about how it feels to be heckled, booed during his act, how it is hard to perform when an entire front row or two pulls out cell phones and cameras and is in your face. The hosts try to bait him by asking him if he thinks Alicia Keys or Nicki Minaj has a “fat ass” etc., but Chappelle doesn’t fall into that trap, sidestepping and directing the conversation elsewhere effortlessly. He is on top of his game. He also seems to have been hitting the gym lately.
One thing that is interesting is that it comes out that Chappelle show was Kanye West’s first television appearance! Dave supported him when he was just getting started, not because he was a big star or something. He just appreciated his music. Sorry, he hasn’t listened to “Watch the Throne” yet, so no comment from him on that. But it’s a great interview.
