Bop Alloy, a group made up of lyricist Substantial & producer Marcus D, officially release their latest single, Autumn Leaves, with vocals by Pismo, off the album Another Day in the Life of… .
Inspired by Gordon Park’s book To Smile In Autumn, Substantial talks about “setting new goals” after reaching those from his youth as his life “approaches the Autumn years.” I don’t know about “Autumn Years“, lol, Stan is in his 30’s. That’s not too old. I guess if you are counting in Hip Hop years, it could be. Then again, more than half of my favorite rappers are over 40 (Jay Z, Naz, Eminem, BustaRhymes, Mos Def, Common, etc) and still going strong. But I understand his sentiment. As we mature our outlook on life changes. We accomplish many goals, discard some, as we realize we don’t want the same things in life as we did when we were teenagers. We progress. We grow. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be.
It’s like I reached that point where many folk lives get froze
Instead I’m busy living most of my childhood goals
Never stagnant, forever I’ll strive for more
Autumn Leaves is from Bop Alloy’s critically acclaimed 2nd album, Another Day in the Life of… available as a Limited Edition EP version on 12″ vinyl.
Also available on CD, iTunes, & Spotify.
The Winter Breaks Digital-Only EP drops this December 2014. Stay tuned.
